Repairing Your Roof With Fruit Dip!

The art of DIY is one of the biggest ways you can save money. ...and We are talking SERIOUS money. For the people who are quite handy around the house, the Internet has become a wealth of information and resource providing every piece of knowledge you need, even step-by-step videos, to give you the confidence to start and complete your DIY project with pride. But make sure to check more than one site so that you are able to find the one that is not only reputable, but suits your style and skills set.

For people who hold their strong skills in other areas and should never step anywhere near power tools, super glue or yard implements of any kind, (and you know who you are), you, too, can save money with an altered version of DIY! Use the skills you do have to finish that honey-do list for little to no cash. Simply evaluate what your strong skills are and barter them for the skills you lack with friends or in one of the many barter clubs or exchange communities listed on the web. (for example Trade Away (http://www.tradeaway.com) or U-Exhange (http://www.u-exchange.com)) If you are a fantastic cook but are a danger to society with a hammer in your hands, teach a non-culinary, but very nail driven friend to make simple meals in trade for the repairs you need made around the house. Use your skills with words to help an unemployed plumber rebuild their resume in exchange for stopping that leaky toilet that's costing you extra money. And don't limit your resources. You can even trade that old swing set your kids outgrew for some beautiful landscaping in its place.

A few tips:
Always use caution when dealing with a person unknown to you and Always have a friend present when meeting someone you don't know. If that exchange pal makes you uncomfortable, do NOT deal with them, even if you think you are just being silly;

Check reference when available;

If using the bartering clubs listed on the Internet, make sure to keep a copy of all the information on your bartering buddy "just in case" you need it and never post any personal information such as name, address or phone number in your public request or offer; and

Check your local, state and federal tax (http://www.irs.gov/taxtopics/tc420.html) laws on bartering as the fair market value of goods and services exchanged can be taxable.

So remember, next time you're looking for a great value, you should never overlook yourself!!
