Web Sites Are Being Paid To Mislead You!!

With the Cyber Shopping season fully open today, we felt obligated to pass on this story.

Several price-comparison sites had law suits filed against them today by the State of Texas for dishonest practices. The basis of the litigation is that these sites are being paid to “feature” products and the only true comparison going on is which company will pay them the most to have their product on the top of the “Best Of” list.

The Defendants include Intercept LLC – which operates Shopcartusa.com, diduprice.com, Flyingprices.com, Digitalsaver.com and Pricingdepot.com. To their credit, these sites have agreed to correct their unlawful practices and either pay a $300,000 civil penalty or cease doing business as of this month. A separate lawsuit also filed today under the same charges listed Everyprice.com and Lowpriceddigital.com as defendants. The state's enforcement action against Everyprice.com seeks civil penalties of up to $20,000 per violation of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act, plus attorneys' fees. The state also seeks restitution where necessary to address financial injury to the Web sites' users. We also found this blog named Thoughts-of-Dave (http://thoughts-of-dave.blogspot.com/2009/01/beware-of-stop-and-shop-digital-aka.html) which states it has two goals: 1. To expose every bait and switch website on the Internet, and 2. To publish the hottest, valid deals on cameras and video equipment. Being bargaineers, we consider the second just to be a bonus if in fact they are the hottest and even though we did find much of the information to be truthful, proceed with caution as we have not verified the full validity of this blog.
